From 28 to 30 March, the bushveld came alive with the roar of engines, the crunch of gravel beneath rugged tyres, and the buzz of camaraderie as off-road enthusiasts gathered for Camp LA Sport 2025, hosted at the iconic Mabalingwe Game Reserve. This exciting initiative was driven by LA Sport in collaboration with Boschpoort Predators, uniting adventure with a greater cause: conservation.
These campers set up for the weekend at the Mabalingwe Caravan Park, where fires crackled under the stars and the spirit of the wild welcomed everyone.
Early Saturday morning, the group departed on a scenic drive to the Boschpoort Predators sanctuary, where they were treated to an up-close experience with some of South Africa’s most iconic carnivores. This wasn’t just a tour, it was a chance to witness the very real conservation work happening behind the scenes.
Did you know that 4x4 vehicles play a crucial role in wildlife conservation?
In the rugged and often remote landscapes where wildlife roam, a 4x4 is not just a means of transport - it’s a lifeline. From rescuing injured animals, responding to poaching threats, conducting field research, to providing supplies and support in difficult terrain, these vehicles are essential tools in the everyday operations of sanctuaries and reserves. Without the ability to access hard-to-reach areas, many of the rescue and rehabilitation efforts would be impossible.
But it goes beyond the technical support—every holidaymaker who visits a game reserve in their 4x4 is contributing directly to conservation. Their park fees, accommodation bookings, and activity participation help fund the operations that keep reserve gates open, rangers employed, and animals protected. Conservation in South Africa depends on tourism and outdoor adventure, and 4x4 drivers are a vital part of that ecosystem.

After the predator tour, the adrenaline kicked into high gear as participants headed to the 4x4 track. With experienced marshals leading the way, drivers navigated through challenging terrain and technical obstacles designed to test both man and machine. It was a day of learning, pushing limits, and bonding with fellow enthusiasts. Participants walked away with valuable knowledge about their vehicles' capabilities, recovery techniques, and safe off-road practices, all while having an absolute blast.
The evening wrapped up in true bushveld fashion with a hearty spitbraai, prize giving, and a sky full of stars as stories from the day's adventures were shared around the fire. There’s something special about the kind of connection that forms when people unite for a purpose—and this weekend, that purpose was driving for conservation.
A massive shoutout and heartfelt thank you goes out to the incredible sponsors who made this weekend possible and who continue to support the work at Boschpoort Predators: Takla, Opposite Lock, Front Runner, Motus Motors, Land Cruiser Heaven, and Quick Pitch – your contribution extends far beyond gear and giveaways. You are actively part of protecting South Africa’s wildlife heritage.
Whether you are a seasoned off-roader or new to the 4x4 world, weekends like Camp LA Sport remind us that adventure can have purpose, and that every trail conquered can lead to a better future for the wild.
Until next time - keep it muddy, keep it wild, and keep driving for conservation.
